Character Education/Violence Prevention programs have recently
become the "hot topic" in schools and government,
however, these programs seem to be a "quick fix"
to an ever-increasing problem of bullying and violence.
The Healing Species realizes that the problem of violence
in society must be addressed at an early age with an emphasis
on addressing issues of the heart, compassion to all living
beings, and peaceable relating. If children are taught at
an early age to relate empathetically, then we will evolve
into a more compassionate and responsible society. This must
begin early in life and be consistently reinforced. As a result,
Healing Species has set in place several projects to ensure
that children’s lives will be changed now, and will
continue to be impacted for years ahead. Investment in Healing
Species does, and will continue, to yield long term results.
"Project Expansion"
Healing Species is setting up satellite programs in areas
across the state of South Carolina and in other states in
the United States.
Other states involved in satellite groups are: Denver, Colorado;
Phoenix, Arizona; Atlanta, Georgia; and Seattle, Washington.

"Project New Schools"
After masses of media coverage, South Carolina Department
of Education endorsement, unprecedented success rates, local
and national conference participation, speaking engagements,
and word of mouth within the school systems, the desire for
Healing Species curriculum has increased at extraordinary
rates.
This has allowed tremendous growth with expansion plans for
this year, and the future.
New schools we are reaching based on support from the Lucas
Family Foundation are: Pomeria Elementary School, Guinyard
Elementary School, Francis Mac Elementary School, Swansea
Elementary School, YMCA after school programs, Clark Middle
School Summer Programs, New Endeavors Alternative School,
College Park Elementary, "My Sister's House" Domestic
Violence Shelter in Charleston, and Pee Dee Coalition "Train
the Trainers" partnership, as well as continued on-going
service to schools we regularly serve.
"Project Now"
Currently, Healing Species is changing lives. In fact, nearly
5,000 children in South Carolina alone are served per school
year.
Healing Species has a standing contract with Lexington School
District One to teach all fourth grade students the structured
11-week curriculum.
Healing Species has just written the first "updates
and edits" of the published curriculum, thus indicating
growth, continued improvement and self-evaluation, and expansion.
As a lawyer, Healing Species founder and director is making
this link known to the legal arena in South Carolina by sponsoring
a Continuing Legal Education Seminar (CLE) with nationally
renowned speakers and accreditation from the South Carolina
Bar Association.
Healing Species has also begun reaching children individually.
In special cases of children with especially violent tendencies
or exceptionally difficult home environments, Healing Species
has stepped in and begun reaching these children in "one-on-one"
sessions. These individual cases prove to display great hope
and improvement.
